I've had dogs before but never from a puppy so when I went to collect the new addition to our household I had a mixture of excitement and feeling completely unprepared.
I won't lie: the journey home wasn't the romantic experience I had visualised. The puppy shook when I put her in her travel case and then cried the whole journey home. Never has a 10 minute journey felt like an hour.
The first evening wasn't overly exciting or eventful... Just us getting to know the puppy and her getting to know us. We played, took photos, had cuddles and laughed as her little quirks emerged; including her attacking her reflection in the patio doors.
I had been adament she would not be allowed to sleep on my bed so I set up her little bed with a blanket and toy with anticipation of how much sleep I would get. Turns out I have no willpower and by 3.30am I had a little sleep companion.
However on reflection, is it such a bad thing for a puppy to sleep in their new owner's bed? They have been wrenched away from not only their mum but their siblings to to go to a strange new place. A cuddle seems fair... I can wash the sheets if there are any accidents. Touch wood no accidents so far.
When she's used to her new home I plan to begin to get her back in her bed on the floor but until then it seems an affectionate way to settle her into her new home
