I like making goals but after the uncertainty of last year, I'm a bit reluctant to make big statements of what I'd like to do.
Therefore, I'm making a list of 21 small things that should be achievable whether Covid restrictions are lifted or not.
1. Buy new underwear and socks : TMI and a bit boring but something I've needed to do for a while and never get round to doing it.
2. Do a course: it would probably have to be an online course but I'm interested in something like massage therapy, writing or learning a language.
3. Travel if restrictions are lifted : I have 3 trips I'd like to take; 2 in Europe and 1 further afield. It seems a bit irresponsible and currently, unlikely to go ahead. But I will personally adhere to any lock down restrictions if it means just one of them can go ahead.
4. Have a McDonald’s blow out: I simultaneously love but find McDonald's a bit gross, however just once I would like to order the full shebang of a big mac, chips, chocolate milkshake and Mcflurry, stuff my face and then spend the rest of the day feeling sick.
5. Be able to carry a Christmas tree home from the garden centre: I always say I want to improve my upper body strength but never really get anywhere. In 2020, we bought a real tree from the garden centre 100 yards from my house... Yet I drove to get it (it was in a pot so was difficult to carry). I want to lug a tree over my shoulder (or drag it up the road) and walk home with it.
6. Have a city outing: It would be nice if restrictions are lifted in the summer like last year so we could have 1 day out. Maybe a trip to London or Brighton. And Athens
7. Read 10 new books: I usually read about 40 books a year but they're usually ones I've read before so I'd like to expand my literature repertoire, even if they are chick-lit books.
8. Blog twice a month: so far, 3 posts in one week is pretty good but also my standard routine of posting; lots of posts at once then none for ages. Saying twice a month feels more flexible than saying fortnightly or weekly.
9. Talk to someone I fancy the pants off: dating is off the cards for this year and I'm not great at talking to guys, however a nice 'hello' with someone easy on the eye would be nice
10. Buy a house plant: again it's boring but something I've yet to get round to doing.
11. Get a new mobile phone: my phone is 5 years old but is on its way out. I love it but it's time for a new one.
12. Save £1000: speaks for itself...
13. Get another tattoo : I'm 30 in July so would like to mark the occasion with another tattoo.
14. Learn one piece properly on the saxophone: I haven't played in about 2 years so learning one piece would be a big improvement.
15. Learn Claire and Jamie's theme from Outlander on the piano : my puppy is named after the main characters' daughter so seems fitting to learn their theme.
16. Go to the V&A museum in London: hopefully this can tie in with the city outing. .
17. Give regularly to charity: I've tried to increase the amount I give to charity over the last few years but it's usually one amount once a year. Therefore I'd like to try and give monthly, even if it's just £10.
18. Keep in contact with friends: face-to-face meetings are difficult at the moment so I'd like to make video calls a regular thing.
19. Paint my bathroom: it's in need of a lick of paint to freshen it up a little bit.
20. Set up a pension: I've been saying this one for years. Will this year finally be the year I get my arse in gear?
21. Don't get annoyed if things don't go to plan: last year I got very frustrated when things were held up, postponed or cancelled. I'm trying to remember there are people risking their lives on the front-line while me and my family are healthy.
