The best week away: sailing around Greece with Medsailors

I love Greece, water, swimming and visiting new places and so combing all of those sounded like it would float my boat (if you'll pardon the pun). I booked a trip with Medsailors: I'd seen videos on YouTube and it looked idyllic-and it was!

I've been a frequent traveller to Greece for years but often went to the more well known islands. Medsailors travels around less popular islands and offers lots of different experiences such as snorkeling, paddle boarding, water sports, scooter hire and visits to historic sites.

Medsailors offer sailing holidays for 20-35 years olds around different routes in Greece, Croatia, Turkey and Montenegro. Included in the price is a skipper, breakfast and lunch freshly made by your skipper, bed lines, snorkel gear (although this wasn't available due to corona virus) and paddle boards. You can bring your own snacks and alcohol on board.

A typical day
We would usually set off around 7.30am each morning and sail for about a hour before stopping for a swim and breakfast. Usually our skipper would make scrambled eggs but there would also be cereal, yoghurt and fruit. On our last morning we were surprised with banana pancakes-delicious!

After about an hour and a half we would set sail again, usually for a couple of hours. During this time people would sunbathe, read or just chat. We would then stop for lunch and another swim for about 2 hours. Lunch was usually something like pasta, risotto or gnocchi with a Greek salad, meat and cheese.

Following more swimming, we would set off for our final sail and arrive at our next island around 3pm. We could go off and explore the island, partake in water sports, hire a scooter or visit an archaeological site depending on the island we were on.
For dinner we would go to one of the tavernas on the island. Sometimes all of the boats would meet for dinner together or we would eat with our individual boats.

Following dinner you can either go back to the boat, go out for drinks or continue to explore.

Saronic route
I chose the Saronic route which starts in Athens and visits the islands of Poros, Spetses, Hydra, Ermioni and Perdika. I'd never been to any of the islands so was looking forward to visiting somewhere new.

They were traditional Greek Islands and it was so lovely to see them not being overrun by tourists. I loved them all but Spetses tops the list- we were able to hire scooters and toured the whole island seeing some spectacular scenary.

The whole week was absolutely amazing, so much so I've booked a return trip on a different route and I'm already counting down the days!
