I love a list, I love a goal (see my 10 years in 10 month ongoing challenge) and I love ticking things off when I achieve something. Usually, at the start of the year, I set a list of things I'd like to achieve or do throughout the year but quite often I get impatient when I can't cross something off quite yet and often forget to appreciate the current time of the year. It's hard to appreciate January when you're itching for it to be July so you can go on the holiday you can't wait for.
I wasn't planning on setting goals for this year: I get too obsessed with crossing things off to feel like I'm achieving something, however I'm giving setting seasonal goals a go to appreciate and realise that things aren't always achievable at a certain time.
So without further ado, here are my goals for the rest of January to mid March:
1. Don't feel too guilty for not getting up early
I set an alarm each morning but quite often end up snoozing it. I feel incredibly fortunate to have a job that doesn't require me to get up early, however it doesn't stop me from feeling guilty for 'lounging in bed'. But I know that when the weather is warmer and the days are brighter, I'll be more motivated to get up earlier-even on the few sunny January mornings we've had I get more incentive to get up. Therefore, if it's a dull, grey day and I don't want to get up, I want to relish not needing to get up straight away; I can read in bed, do some of my Greek language course, or prep some stuff for work later in the day. It's still being productive, just from a slightly warmer and cosier place.
2. Enjoy movie afternoons
Similar to the getting up early one, I love watching movies on the sofa, but again feel guilty that I should be doing something more or should be out doing something fun. Yet, outside is cold, dark and gloomy so I'd much rather be inside in the warm than out in the dark and wet. I'll be outside lots (hopefully) during the summer.
3. Have a big clear out and organise
Being inside is the perfect opportunity to sort stuff out: the cupboard under the stairs, the 'gimp' cupboard in the office and boxes I still haven't completely emptied from moving.
While they're not the most exciting of goals, they seem manageable while the weather is cold, ready for hopefully more exciting ventures in the spring.
