Best of Beaches- updated 2023

Since I wrote my previous post here about some of my favourite beaches I've visited around the world, I've been fortunate enough to visit a few more incredible beaches so I thought it was time for an update.

Lake McKenzie- Fraser Island- Australia- Technically a lake rather than a beach, but it was huge, stretching out as far as the eye can see and absolutely beautiful so thought it should make the list. The sand was soft, the water warm and the whole place had an air of tranquillity about it... even if we did have to keep an eye out for dingoes roaming about. Definitely a place I would love to return to.

Whitehaven Beach- The Whitsundays- Australia- Fortunately we got 2 minutes of sunshine to capture the iconic photo of Whitehaven beach and even though the weather wasn't bright sunshine, it was still amazing. The changing colour of the waters due to the sand formations was incredible to see and the beach stretched for miles. To add to the amazing scenery, we even got to get up close to sting rays. There were about 30 of them all chilling in the shallows of the water and it was so cool to be able to walk among them.

Byron Bay- Australia- While we were mainly lucky with the weather in Australia in June, it was rather cloudy and rainy by the time we got to Byron Bay. However, we still managed to enjoy some time on the beach when breaks in the rain occurred. The sand 'squeaked' when we walked on it, there were dogs playing and the vibe of the town was cool.

Bondi Beach- Australia- Can you even review beaches in Australia without mentioning Bondi Beach? While on approach I was slightly underwhelmed by it- I think I'd built up a bit too high of an expectation- it was still iconic. The beach was smaller than I'd imagined but there were all the tell-tale signs of being at Bondi: surfers, beach babes and the Bondi Rescue team. After walking along the coast from Coogee beach, we had (a slightly pricey) lunch overlooking the Iceberg pools and the beach. It was lovely to just people watch and appreaciate where we were.

The Maldives- Everywhere I looked just looked like a postcard. The turquoise water, the soft sand and the palm trees were just magical. Absolute paradise.

Antipaxos- Greece- Some of the clearest water I've ever seen in Greece. The beach was a bit crowded in mid-July but the island still felt like a hidden gem.

Harami Beach- Paxos- Greece- Despite being stony, once you get into the water it turns to sand. I could have spent hours just chilling here. The beach is quite small but didn't really get too busy and it never got boring staring at the colour of the water.

In the past few years, I've been able to visit some beaches I never thought I'd ever visit and each one was amazing. Hopefully this list can keep on growing.
